A Sensible Solutions Timeline

YEAR COMPLETED PROJECTS
1997 Expanded Wilmington Wastewater Treatment Plant (Cost: $30 Million) Increased the capture and treatment of CSOs from 49% to 70%, one of the highest capture rates in the nation
1999 Created Wilmington’s Long Term Control Program: Implemented EPA recommended 9 Minimum Controls; created a CSO Crew to inspect, clean and maintain CSO structures and keep them free of obstructions
1999 Raised the overflow weir and installed trash netting at CSO 30
2001 Prevented public access to receiving waters by erecting fences at CSO 31
2003 Revised Long Term Control Plan to include innovative technology and aggressive schedule
2004 Prevented overflows at CSO 4b caused by the backwashing of filters at the Water Treatment Plant
2004 Raised the dam at CSO 4a to contain flows into the Prices Run Interceptor
2005 Completed construction of 2.7 million gallon underground storage tanks in Canby Park. Connected CSOs 28 and 29 to the tanks and closed those outfalls

 

YEAR CURRENT AND FUTURE PROJECTS
2006 Connect CSO 27 to the Canby Park structure
2006 Eliminate the Rockford Road CSO to protect our Source Water (the Brandywine)
2007 – 2010 Optimize collection, storage and transportation of flows to the Water Treatment Plant while minimizing the amount of overflows
Beginning 2008 Improvements to the 11th Street Pump Station
Beginning 2008 Construction of a Diversion Interceptor for Prices Run
