You
may have seen articles in the newspaper or been involved in discussion groups
on the subject of sewer overflows that occur in Wilmington, Delaware when
it rains. Like many older industrial cities, the City of Wilmington has a
combined sewer system. This means that both our sewage and storm
water share the same pipes as they flow to the Wilmington Wastewater Treatment
Facility and eventually into the Delaware River. This website will help you
understand the reasons for these overflows, and their impacts, from an historical,
financial and regional perspective.
